EXCLUSIVE: McNair to coach Deezies
(Y!SN) -- Multiple sources have told the Yahoo! Sports Network that Steve "Air" McNair will be the new coach of the Deezies fa Sheezies.
An official announcement is expected to be made following the return of Deezies Sports Limited President and CCO Carson L. Rizor, who reportedly has been meeting with McNair at his office in Tennessee. The two sides have reportedly been in negotiations since early Thursday, with salary being the main sticking point.
McNair began his Fantasy Football Fever career in 2003 as a member of the Sawyer Pilots. He was named a starter for the Deezies fa Sheezies at the beginning of the 2004 season, but fought injuries throughout the season that nagged him the rest of his career. He was cut by the Guantanamo Pep Squad last September, and announced his retirement in April.
"Coming out and making this decision, it was hard," McNair said in April. "In your mind, you feel like you can play, that you can still compete. But when your mind and your body are not in accord, it's not going to work in the Fantasy Football Fever.
"My mind was there. Mentally, I could go out and play. But physically, I couldn't do it anymore. Not to the capacity that I need to help my teammates win a football game."
McNair would replace Jimmy Smith, who was let go from the team following an arrest last month. Smith himself had replaced C-Deezy fa Sheezy, who mysteriously disappeared last December shortly after a first-round playoff loss to the Stanley Cup Champs.
